Taipei City used to have 16 administrative districts. Due to vast differences of size and population between these districts, there was significant imbalance in infrastructure and social welfare. In order to strengthen the administrative functions, improve efficiency, and enhance service quality, on March 12, 1990, the Ministry of the Interior announced merger of the south of North-South Railway of former Songshan District and the north of Section 3, Heping East Road of Daan District as Sinyi District. Sinyi Revenue Service Office was established on January 1, 1991, accordingly.
